Look into leappad products. They have a wide range of educational toys for all age groups and I haven’t found a single product of theirs that I didn’t like or more so, that my son didn’t like. V-tech also makes great educational toys.

Did you try any of the Baby Einstein products, they have educational movies and toys. My daughters actually loved Sesame Street, which sounds funny, but they learned how to count, speak some spanish words, and can sing the whole alphabet. If you don’t want them to watch the whole show, they have movies dedicated to each learning point. And they have great informative toys too, if you find the right ones. And don’t forget to read to them.

Depends on what you want to develop in your child. Different toys provide different development and it will be good to mix and match.
Check out the following site which provides a guide on what development each toy brings. You can then decide on what to buy.

My son loves puzzles… I got him one that has wooden letters. He loves it when I put all the letters in a pile and ask him to pick out a particular letter and put it in it’s proper place.

instead of going for the best ( because your kids wont be young forever) try something that will have more meaning to you try a home made toy ( imagine the joy your heart will feel seeing your children enjoying the toy as much as the one you bought) not only will it save you money but it also give you the chance to rack your brain trying to think of what they would enjoy as far as colors shapes and sizes … good luck ?

I would buy toys that speak, back to the child after they give a answer. Or musical programs about A, B C’s 1, 2, 3’s. If kids learn with music they have a musical beat to relate to learning and it will make it much easier for them to remember. When you sing A, B, C, D it’s in a musical form.

My daughter at that age really started to enjoy musical instruments. It can get a bit noisy around the house, but this is a great time to introduce them to it. We bought her a drum a piano keyboard and a tamborine. She still has so much fun playing all three. (she’s 2 1/2 now)
